Atmospheric scientist Johnny Chan compared the storm to Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018, adding that “it will make landfall about the same area along the south China coast.”

Shenzhen resident CJ Chen said that while Ragasa was initially described as large, “but the damage caused by this storm might not have been as intense as the damage caused by Typhoon Mangkhut.”

Meanwhile, in Taiwan, the barrier lake, formed by landslides triggered by earlier heavy rain, burst and sent a wall of water into Guangfu. Many residents in Guangfu said there was insufficient warning when the lake overflowed.
