Kolkata Floods LIVE: At Least 10 Dead as Kolkata Sees Record Rain, Waterlogging Ahead Of Durga Puja
Heavy rain lashed Kolkata amid the ongoing Durga Puja festivities, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting train, metro, and flight services. The downpour led to traffic chaos across the city, with more rain predicted for Kolkata and South Bengal in the coming days. At least 10 people died in rain-related incidents, including eight deaths due to electrocution. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences to the victims’ families and blamed the electricity provider CESC for the electrocution. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim urged residents to stay indoors for their safety. In response to the severe weather, government schools and colleges in Bengal opted for early Durga Puja vacations. The heavy rain also caused damage to Durga Puja tent, affecting the festive celebrations.
