Israeli allies France and Saudi Arabia officially recognised the state of Palestine during a special summit. Both Israel and the US boycotted the summit. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who attended the event via video link, thanked the Western countries for Israel’s recognition. The acceptance comes in the wake of Israel’s recent brutal attacks on Palestine. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu accused these countries of rewarding Hamas. He is constantly annexing more Palestinian territories. Italian PM Georgia Meloni called recognition of Palestine as “counter-productive” and Germany said that Palestine’s state status isn’t up for debate. However, most European nations are pushing Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza. Alyson Le Grange tells you more.
