India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation ahead of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) 2.0 reforms, effective from September 22. PM Modi called the GST reforms a step towards a self-reliant India and congratulated the country on the “GST savings festival”. He said that the reforms would accelerate India’s growth story, ease of business and innovation. PM Modi also announced “double bonanza” for the neo middle class. He also called on citizens to buy “made in India” products. He urged state governments to back the manufacturing sector to make India self-reliant. On September 3, the Indian government announced a major overhaul in the GST system.
