India’s underground bullet train hub at BKC achieves major construction milestones
The Mumbai Bullet Train Station, under construction at Bandra Kurla Complex, is the only underground station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor. Excavation is being carried out up to 32.5 meters—comparable to a 10-storey building—with the platform level at 26 meters. The station will have three levels: platform, concourse, and service floor, featuring six platforms (each approx. 415 meters long). It offers seamless connectivity to Metro Line 2B and nearby areas through two planned entry/exit points. About 84% of the required 18.7 lakh cubic meters of excavation has been completed. Base slab casting is underway using M-60 grade temperature-controlled concrete, with over 51,000 cu.m. poured so far. Columns are being cast with M-80 grade concrete. The site features three batching plants with ice and chiller units, and an in-house lab for concrete testing. Key works like secant piling, capping beam, and flood wall construction are 100% complete.
