A Canadian mother who lost her son during a day of severe wildfire smoke is speaking out, as new international research reveals the true global scale of the health impacts.

The peer-reviewed study links smoke from Canada’s record-breaking wildfire season in 2023 to over 82,000 premature deaths around the world.

Researchers say it’s clear that wildfires are a global public health issue.
