Beau Mason, the commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, stated earlier in the day that authorities were able to track the movements of the shooter. He noted that the gunman entered the campus, ascended a stairwell, and reached the roof before fleeing into a nearby neighbourhood.

“We do have good video footage of this individual. We are not going to release that at this time,” he added.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls confirmed the recovery of a “high-powered bolt-action rifle” believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, located in a “wooded area where the shooter had fled.”

In addition to the weapon, investigators have gathered footwear evidence along with palm print and forearm imprints to aid in the investigation.

Suspect “blended in well” with a college institution and appears to be of college age. “We are investing everything we have into this, and we will catch this individual,” Mason added.
