At least 19 people have been killed and 10 are missing after flash floods and landslides devastated Indonesia’s Bali and Flores islands this week. Torrential rains triggered rivers to overflow, submerging 112 neighbourhoods in Bali, toppling markets, homes, and bridges, and cutting access to Denpasar’s international airport. Rescuers pulled bodies from collapsed buildings and mudslides while more than 800 people sought shelter in schools and mosques. On Flores, villages were swept away, with families buried in Mauponggo. Authorities have deployed 200 rescuers and relief supplies, as President Prabowo ordered an emergency response amid warnings that climate change is intensifying monsoon disasters.
