Nepal’s popular leader Balen makes special request to Gen Z, extends support to Sushila Karki’s name
Kathmandu Mayor Balen addressed ‘Gen-Z and all Nepalis’ in wake of massive protest in the country. He extended “full support” to proposal of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the leader of interim Government of Nepal. He also asked the President to dissolve the Parliament, paving the way for fresh elections to be held. Addressing the protesters, he advised them to not rush to “take over leadership” and wait patiently for elections. He called the ‘Gen-Z’ revolution ‘historic & unprecedented’, and hoped for ‘golden future’ for Nepal. People in large number rallied the street in what is called ‘Gen Z’ protest after ban on Social Media platforms. Protests turned violent after Police used water cannons, tear gas, rubber guns to disperse protesters by force. At least 19 people killed and over 200 people were injured during the protests across Kathmandu. Under mounting unrest and chaos, PM KP Sharma Oli resigned and reportedly fled the country. Amid growing uncertainty, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki’s name emerged as interim PM candidate. Gen Z delegation is reported to have agreed on Sushila Karki’s name to lead the transitional government. Nepal witnessed widespread movement led by youth demanding accountability & transparency from Govt.
