#GLOBALNEWS “We will die standing”: Some Palestinians refuse to leave Gaza as Israel orders evacuation

The evacuation orders caused panic and confusion among the residents of Gaza City. Some said they had no choice but to leave for the south, while the vast majority of others said they would stay, as no other place was safe.

“We will remain here in Gaza as the olive trees remain, as Mount al-Nar and Mount al-Muntar remain in Palestine. We will not leave Gaza, because the south is no safer than Gaza (City), and Gaza is no safer than the south. We have decided to stay here in Gaza; we will die standing…” Karam Jarada, a Palestinian man, said.

Israel’s military assault has killed over 64,000 Palestinians since Hamas’ October 2023 attack on Israel, Gaza’s health ministry said. Nearly the entire population has been internally displaced, much of the territory lies in ruins, and a hunger crisis has grown far worse in recent months.
