‘India will say sorry’: Trump’s aide Howard Lutnick targets India with ‘non-friendly’ statement
U.S. Commerce Secy Howard Lutnick on September 05, made a ‘non-friendly’ statement against India. Lutnick stated that despite India’s clear position to continue oil purchasing from Russia, India would return to table to make deal with US in coming months. Secy Lutnick in an interview with ‘Bloomberg TV’ said, “in a month or two months, I think India is going to be at the table.” He also said, India “going to say they’re sorry” though India has stood strong against US’ economic pressure. Further, he forewarned that India would face consequences if it fails to align with U.S.’ interests. Lutnick’s comments came after Trump posted on ‘Truth Social’ that US lost “India and Russia to deepest, darkest China.” While, President Trump on September 06 clarified that he does not think that has happened. Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi taking to social media platform ‘X’ firmly responded to U.S. President Trump’s September 06 remarks. As U.S. President Trump early today said, India-U.S. have ‘very special’ relationship, PM Modi appreciated Trump’s stance. PM Modi said, “Deeply appreciate and fully reciprocate President Trump’s sentimentsand positive assessment of our ties.” He further called India-U.S. relationship a ‘very positive &forward-looking Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership.’ Notably, President Donald Trump shared ‘double-standards’ on India-U.S. tariff tussle. Along with calling PM Modi “a great leader’ and his friend, he imposed 50% tariff on India including 25% for buying oil from Russia. Since, imposing tariff on India rattled Trump continuously shares a series of hostile posts against India and its ties with Russia. Not just Trump, SecyLutnick but also his trade advisor Navarro made ‘controversial’ statements against India and used ‘derogatory’ words for PM Modi.
