In an exclusive interview with Network 18’s Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal spoke about India’s GDP. Goyal said, “India is predominantly a domestic economy. Our exports as part of our overall GDP are still relatively small, and our imports are much larger than our exports. Imports are actually deflating the Indian GDP growth. During COVID, we saw exports fall because of the overall world situation. Do you know imports fell far more than exports?! And we actually landed with a trade surplus during COVID. So, Indian economy is a very complex economy. Therefore, I do not think that impact on GDP will be significant.”
