Burkina Faso parliament passes anti-gay law in latest blow to LGBTQ rights in Africa • FRANCE 24
Burkina Faso’s transitional parliament has passed legislation outlawing conduct deemed to promote LGBTQ practices, introducing fines, prison sentences and sanctions for persons convicted. The move comes less than a year after neighbouring Mali adopted a law criminalising homosexuality. Ghana and Uganda have also recently toughened their laws. While same-sex relationships are outlawed in around a third of the world’s countries, a large number of African nations remain particularly hostile. James Vasina takes a look.
