India’s Nuclear Ambition: Private sector key to unlocking 100 GW capacity by 2047, says Experts
At the 3rd Energy Summit hosted by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, experts highlighted the pivotal role of the private sector in realizing India’s ambitious goal of scaling nuclear power capacity from the current 8 GW to 100 GW by 2047. Abhishek Bhatia, Managing Director & Partner at Boston Consulting Group, noted that India remains focused on energy generation, and the demand for nuclear energy is set to surge. “India currently has only 8 GW of nuclear power. As per the targets set in this year’s budget by the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, the goal is to reach 100 GW. This is achievable only if public and private sectors work in close coordination,” he said. Echoing this sentiment, R. Srikanth, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences & Engineering, emphasized nuclear energy’s role in combating climate change. “Nuclear power provides round-the-clock electricity and is free of CO2 emissions. It’s vital for our clean energy future,” he said.
