The Maharashtra government has announced a major relief for electric vehicle (EV) owners by offering zero toll tax on select highways and toll plazas from August 22, 2025. The exemption is applicable on Atal Setu, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and Samruddhi Mahamarg. The benefit covers electric cars, government EV buses, and private electric buses, including those operated under state transport undertakings (STU).
This move aims to promote green transportation, reduce air pollution, and encourage more people to switch to EVs. According to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnai, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to fighting climate change.
EV owners will now save money on every trip, making EVs more affordable and attractive. With growing EV adoption, Maharashtra is positioning itself as a leading EV-friendly state. Atal Setu, inaugurated in January 2024, plays a key role in this transition, while EV sales in July 2025 saw a 93% year-on-year rise, highlighting the surging demand for electric mobility.
