In a key push to strengthen ties between India and Russia, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is in Moscow. He held talks with his Russian Counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. Before meeting Lavrov, Jaishankar met Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov. Jaishankar emphasised diversifying and expanding their cooperation through more joint ventures. The Indian minister’s bilateral meetings are to set the stage for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India later this year. The announcement of Putin’s visit came at a time when India’s ties with the US have turned sour over President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs.
