German chancellor “can’t imagine” Trump-Zelenskyy-Putin meeting without ceasefire
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said Monday he “can’t imagine” a trilateral meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin could happen without a ceasefire in place.

Merz made the comments during a multilateral meeting with other Trump, Zelenskyy and European leaders – including French President Emmanuel Macron, who said a ceasefire was “necessary.”

In response to Merz, Trump reiterated his claims that he doesn’t see the need for a ceasefire as he seeks a negotiated end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
