Red alert issued in Mumbai after torrential rain causes severe waterlogging in Maharashtra
Heavy rains in different parts of Mumbai caused severe waterlogging disrupting daily life. Amid continuous rain, Andheri Subway was forced to shut. Swapnil Nila, CPRO, Central Railway, briefed about train delays and disruptions due to heavy rain. Maharashtra’s IT minister Ashish Shelar directed administration to take necessary steps to handle the situation. IMD issued red alert in Mumbai and its suburbs for August 18th and 19th. Orange alert was issued for several districts including Palghar, Thane, Sindudurg, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Latur, Amravati, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli.
