Nepal: Janmashtami celebrations draw thousands to Krishna Temple
Thousands of devotees gathered at the historic Krishna Temple in Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami. The 17th-century temple, standing tall among Nepal’s ancient landmarks, is thronged annually by worshippers marking the birth of Lord Krishna. Devotees, especially women, spent the night chanting prayers, singing devotional songs, dancing, and lighting oil-fed lamps. According to scriptures, Lord Krishna—believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Bishnu and protector against evil and injustice—was born at midnight on Bhadrakrishna Astami during the Dwapar era. The celebration blended faith, festivity, and heritage with fervor and devotion.
