Shocking! 26 died near Italy’s Lampedusa Island crossing Mediterranean, search operation continues
On August 13, around 26 people died in shipwreck tragedy near southern Island of Lampedusa of Italy. According to coast guard, around 60 people brought ashore, the search operation is ongoing. The disaster hits the people travelling from Libya, highlighted migrants’ perilous Mediterranean crossing from Africa to Europe. The coastguard in a statement informed, an Italian aircraft spotted capsized boat with bodies on August 13. 5 ships, 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter were operating at rescue site, Coast Guard informed. The primary tallies from UNHCR showed that group of migrants comprised around 92 to 97 people. The UNHCR spokesperson informed, since beginning of this 675 people died while crossing Mediterranean.
