Two More Charged In Killing of Municipal Police Officer
Two additional suspects are to be charged in connection with the murder of Municipal Police Officer Anuska Eversley.
Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro confirmed the development on Friday. This brings the total number of accused to three, following Sunday’s incident at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station.
Commissioner Guevarro said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has formally moved to charge two additional suspects, alongside the 28-year-old Municipal Police Officer already in custody.
In an audio statement, he said following consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions, all three will face joint charges for murder, robbery with violence, firearm trafficking and possession of ammunition.
“The TTPS has received formal instructions to also charge a 24-year-old scrap iron dealer of Claxton Bay and a 20-year-old construction worker, also of Claxton Bay, alongside the 28-year-old Municipal Police Officer already in custody. All three will be charged jointly with murder, robbery with violence, firearm trafficking, and possession of ammunition.”
Commissioner Guevarro confirmed that only one Municipal Police Officer has been charged at this time, stressing that the other two accused are civilians.
He also acknowledged public fear and outrage following the killing and the theft of firearms from the San Fernando Municipal Police Headquarters on Sunday.
According to the Commissioner, the charges stem from coordinated recovery operations carried out over several days across South Trinidad, which also resulted in the seizure of dozens of illegal weapons.
“These charges arise out of coordinated inquiries and recovery operations conducted over the past several days, during which 44 firearms, large quantities of ammunition, and multiple magazines were recovered at various locations across Claxton Bay, Gasparillo, Macaulay, and surrounding areas.”
Commissioner Guevarro said once investigations are completed, the three accused are expected to appear before a Master of the High Court.
