Nearly one in five workers in Singapore overqualified for their jobs: MOM study
According to a study by the Manpower Ministry, nearly one in five workers in Singapore is considered overqualified for their jobs — mostly by choice. This trend comes as education levels rise, with the proportion of residents holding tertiary qualifications growing from just over half in 2015 to 64% in 2025. A complementary study by the National Trades Union Congress found that about 86% of respondents were underemployed by choice. Underemployment refers to jobs that do not fully use a worker’s skills, or falls outside their field of education. Caitlin Ng reports.
