New National Service medical classification system to take effect from Oct 2027
Singapore’s National Service will soon move beyond broad medical labels, allowing servicemen to contribute more meaningfully to the country’s defence. Under a refreshed medical grading system, recruits will receive specific exemptions and training guidelines, instead of the long-standing Physical Employment Standard (PES) status. The changes kick in next October for new recruits of the Singapore Armed Forces. The change could allow about 1,200 more servicemen a year to be actively deployed.
