Artemis Moon Mission| Who Is Amit Kshatriya? NASA’s Top Civil Servant, Driving Moon-To-Mars Missions
Amid claps and cheers, four astronauts of NASA’s Artemis-II mission splashed down in the Pacific ocean on Saturday morning after a historic flight to the moon – the first by humans in more than 50 years.
Addressing the press shortly after, NASA Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya, said that “The path to the moon is open, but the work ahead is greater than the work behind”
Kshatriya holds the agency’s highest-ranking civil service position, and effectively functions as NASA’s Chief Operating Officer.
He previously served as deputy associate administrator, where he was responsible for efforts to establish a long term lunar presence and prepare for the first human missions to Mars.
Kshatriya joined NASA in 2003 as a software engineer and robotics flight controller, working on the International Space Station.
He is a recipient of NASA’s Outstanding Leadership Medal and widely regarded as a “systems man”, credited with bridging the gap between complex hardware development and real-time mission execution.
