Artemis II’s splashdown in Pacific Ocean after moon mission
Here’s the final leg of the Artemis II’s journey back to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean after NASA’s latest mission around the moon.
The spacecraft re-entered Earth’s atmosphere at about 35 times the speed of sound, facing temperatures nearly half as hot as the sun.
That was a critical moment for its heat shield, which had faced issues in an earlier mission.
This time, NASA adjusted the spacecraft’s re-entry path, making it steeper and shorter to reduce prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
The capsule splashed down as planned, off the coast of San Diego on Fri (Apr 10) local time.
