Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing officially sworn in as president
Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing has signalled early signs of mending ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which the country is a member but has been largely sidelined since the 2021 military coup. The retired army chief was sworn in as president on Friday (Apr 10), continuing his rule from a civilian post five years following the coup, and just months after holding controversial staggered elections. In his first speech as president, Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar wants to normalise ties with the regional bloc. CNA’s Myanmar correspondent Leong Wai Kit explains what’s next for the country.
