‘Huge gaps on both sides’: Analyst on US’ and Iran’s terms on ending the war
Iran, the United States and Israel reached a tentative, two-week ceasefire on Wednesday (Apr 8) in the war that has torn across the Middle East and disrupted the global energy market. Negotiations to finalise details of the proposal to end the fighting are set to begin on Friday in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. Ryan Bohl, senior Middle East and North Africa analyst at geopolitical consultancy RANE, tells CNA’s Asia First that upcoming talks will be tough, with Iran seeking a more durable and favourable deal, while Washington is unlikely to accept some of Tehran’s demands as they would reverse long-standing US foreign policy.
