We Talk: Indonesia’s under-16 social media ban begins, most parents support it
A new Indonesian law went into effect on March 28, restricting children under 16 from accessing social media and other popular online platforms. All business entities operating in Indonesia are required to comply. The law has received mixed reactions in some quarters. A CGTN stringer interviewed people in Indonesia to learn their views on the ban.
One interviewee, Siti Romlah, believes the ban will help create a better communication environment for both parents and children. Another interviewee, Andre, also expressed support, saying it gives parents an indirect way to limit how much time children spend on electronic devices, helping prevent exposure to harmful social media content.
