Telecommunications Authority Claim First Clash Of The Corporates Title
Table Tennis is for everyone. And that includes the Corporate world who crowned their inaugural champions on Tuesday night in St Joseph. It was the Final of the Clash of the Corporates league.
The Table Tennis competition which started on March 9th came down to one evening of drama to see who will emerge champions of the first ever Clash of the Corporates League. WASA Ground in St Joseph was the stage for Tuesday’s Finals which was organized by the Curtis Humphreys Table Tennis Academy.
4 teams made it to the semi-finals, Telecommunications Authority, WASA and two teams from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Services Spinners 1 in maroon and Spinners 2 in blue.
The Team competition consisted of mixed double, men’s doubles, women singles and men’s singles which gave little rest in between games for many of the competitors.
Spinners 2 managed to hold off compatriots Spinners 1 to secure the bronze medals.
Something uncommon in table tennis competition, a guest appearance by an artiste. Gospel singer Jaron Nurse had the crowd praising in between the intense action.
The finals between TATT in blue and WASA in black was a keen contest and it showed why these two teams deserved to be the last two standing.
A good battle brewed between generations saw Esshan Bunsee of Wasa get tested by a wily veteran in Ellery Gokool who forced three sets before Bunsee prevailed.
Rajesh Ramoutar and Allsha Long of TATT then powered past Kyle Lamo and Whitney Almarales in the mixed double in straight sets.
Ramoutar then returned with Keon Rowley to get past Lamo and Joel Mungroo in two nail-biting sets.
Whitney Almarales needed to win for Wasa to keep them in the fight and she did just that prevailing over SherryAnn Sealey in 2 sets.
Perfect ending for all in attendance as TATT’s Keon Rowley and Joel Mungroo in black for WASA had the championship hopes in their hands.
This contest produced the most rallies as neither opponent didn’t really go for the kill and would rely on their opponents messing up.
Unfortunately that person was Mungroo who lost the first set on a messed up return.
Then a missed forehand decided the contest as Keon Rowley takes this matchup 2-0, earning TATT the 3-2 win.
Then came the team celebrations as Telecommunication Authority of T&T take the inaugural Clash of the Corporate League.
