HDB resale flat prices dip for first time in nearly 7 years
Resale flat prices in Singapore have dipped for the first time in nearly seven years, falling 0.1 per cent in the first quarter, amid an increase in housing supply and more Build-to-Order (BTO) options coming onstream. Analysts say the decline was partly due to a ramp-up in BTO launches, with nearly 20,000 flats planned this year. While prices are expected to see modest growth over the rest of 2026, authorities are urging buyers to remain prudent given economic uncertainties and evolving market conditions. CNA speaks to Professor Sing Tien Foo, Provost Chair Professor in the Department of Real Estate at NUS Business School, who discusses the reasons for the cooling housing demand, profiles of possible buyers and what this means for the property market amid broader geopolitical tensions.
