In Miyagi Prefecture’s Minamisanriku, a town devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, nearly 2,000 cherry trees are coming into bloom. The early-blossoming Kawazu cherry trees were planted after the disaster, and have become a symbol of recovery for the residents.
