The reported strikes come as regional tensions escalate following what US President Donald Trump described as ‘major combat operations’ inside Iran. In a video statement, Trump warned members of Iran’s security forces to lay down their weapons or ‘face certain death’.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the action was part of a joint operation aimed at removing “the existential threat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran.”

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that the ‘first wave’ of missile and drone attacks against Israel was underway, marking a sharp escalation in hostilities between the sides.

The developments follow three recent rounds of talks between Iranian and American officials – one in Muscat and two in Geneva – which had sought to reduce tensions but failed to produce a breakthrough.
