TTT Live Online Chaguanas Mayor Announces Plans For New Transport Hub

Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed has announced plans to develop a new transport hub in the borough.

He says the area formerly occupied by the old health centre has been identified.

Mayor Mohammed explains that the project is part of a broader plan to improve traffic flow, public safety, commuter comfort, and economic activity within the borough.

“Chaguanas is growing, and with growth comes responsibility. We cannot continue to operate in a way that creates congestion, disorder and long-term risk. We must plan properly, build properly, and manage our space properly.”

Mayor Mohammed emphasised that the planning process carefully considered the welfare of the vendors. He noted that measures have been put in place to ensure they have adequate space, access, and support to continue their businesses without disruption.

“The vendors who operated in that space are not being abandoned. They are not being pushed aside. They have been offered booths at the Chaguanas market with six months’ rent free. That is a structured, fair and supportive transition package. It provides stability, it provides opportunity, it provides time. No one can reasonably say that the Corporation acted without compassion.”
