CNA Singapore must retain the ability to say ‘no’: Vivian Balakrishnan

Singapore’s interests will not always align with major powers or its neighbours, and the country must be prepared to “say no” when necessary, said Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan in parliament on Friday (Feb 27).

He said this is not about choosing sides, but about safeguarding Singapore’s long-term national interests. Even if there may be a price to pay, retaining the ability to stand firm is essential to preserving Singapore’s relevance and independence.
