Syria reports mass escape from al-Hol ISIL camp amid ‘shocking’ conditions

Syria says there’s been a mass escape from a facility housing relatives of suspected ISIL (ISIS) fighters.
The Syrian interior ministry says the group escaped al-Hol camp last month, following the withdrawal of Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who previously controlled the camp.
Authorities say Kurdish forces left their posts in a “haphazard manner” with internal barriers removed.
The camp was estimated to hold more than 20,000 people but the interior ministry says there was a discrepancy between official records and the actual number of people present.
