Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a crucial two-day visit to Israel, his second trip to the country and first since the Gaza War began. This high-stakes visit focuses on deepening defence, trade and technology cooperation amid escalating tensions in West Asia. Modi will hold extensive conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and address the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, becoming the first Indian leader to do so. Defence technology tops the agenda, with India eyeing possible Iron Dome collaboration, laser-guided ammunition, long-range hypersonic missiles, and precision bomb kits. Fast-tracking the long-pending India-Israel Free Trade Agreement is also a priority. Bilateral trade between the two nations stands at 3.75 billion dollars. Netanyahu has described Modi as a personal friend and emphasised the special relations between the two countries. However, the Congress party has criticised the visit, accusing the government of ignoring the Palestinian crisis and questioning the optics of embracing Netanyahu during the ongoing Gaza conflict.
