“The walls are closing in on President Trump”: Ford on aftermath of US Supreme Court tariff ruling

Ontario Premier Doug Ford spoke on Monday regarding the U.S. Supreme Court ruling last Friday that deemed President Trump’s sweeping global tariffs illegal. Despite this, Trump wrote on social media on Saturday that he’d introduce temporary 15 per cent global tariffs by Tuesday.

“How can one man create so much turmoil around the world?” Ford said, adding “I can’t wait for the midterms.”

Ford described the outcome of the ruling as “positive” with cautious optimism suggesting that even though “the walls are closing in on President Trump,” the federal government must have a plan for everything as “things change on a daily basis.”

The premier also stressed that “no deal is better than a bad deal,” highlighting how Japan and the U.K. are “getting screwed” after they rushed their trade agreements with the U.S. and how “he turned on them like a rattlesnake. So we’re going to be very cautious.”
