China’s icebreaker Xuelong completes survey in Amundsen Sea #coolchina
The Chinese polar research icebreaker Xuelong has completed all scheduled oceanographic survey operations in the Amundsen Sea during China’s 42nd Antarctic expedition. The ocean team aboard Xuelong carried out a series of scientific tasks, including conductivity-temperature-depth observations and water sampling, vertical biological net tows, krill trawling, midwater fish trawling and benthic trawling. Chinese researchers collected a batch of high-value scientific specimens from the Southern Ocean, encompassing Antarctic krill, midwater fish and deep-sea benthic organisms.
