The city has long been packaging Chinese New Year for the world, with nearly 80 percent of festive products in the global marketplace originating in Yiwu. Here, the real stars are the boss ladies, female merchants who effortlessly switch between languages to serve clients from across the globe. For them, multilingualism is a toolkit to seek opportunities. And it is these ordinary yet determined merchants who have helped shape Yiwu into an open and inclusive city.
