Rising above Simatai Village in Beijing’s Miyun District, the Simatai section of the Great Wall winds along steep mountain ridges above Gubei Water Town, offering sweeping views over the surrounding valleys. It is often described as the only stretch that largely preserves the original Ming-era structure, with cliff-edge watchtowers and rugged walls showing the Great Wall in its most authentic form. Just over 100 kilometers from downtown Beijing, this ancient rampart quietly guards the mountain pass – and during the 2026 Spring Festival, it will once again come into the spotlight, inviting audiences to share in its beauty.
