PM Modi Visits Malaysia | India, Malaysia To Use Local Currencies For Bilateral Trade
India and Malaysia have agreed to expand the use of local currencies in bilateral trade and investment during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two day visit to Kuala Lumpur. The two sides also launched the Malaysia India Digital Council to boost cooperation in fintech and digital payments. Leaders backed the NPCI PayNet linkage that will pave the way for India’s UPI to be introduced in Malaysia. The move is aimed at simplifying cross border payments for businesses and travellers. Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim said the decision would strengthen financial ties through rupee ringgit trade mechanisms.
