Hindustan Times Union Budget 2026: Sitharaman Unveils Tourism Push | Focus on New Treks In Northeast | #shorts

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Union Budget 2026 speech, announced a major push to boost tourism across India with a focus on sustainability, heritage and employment. The government will set up a National Institute of Hospitality and roll out a nationwide scheme to train tourist guides at key destinations. Sitharaman highlighted India’s potential to become a global hub for trekking and hiking, with ecologically sustainable mountain trails planned in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, the Eastern Ghats and Western Ghats. Turtle trails will be developed at major nesting sites in Odisha, Karnataka and Kerala, alongside new initiatives such as a Big Cats Summit and development of 15 archaeological sites. Special focus will be given to eastern India and the Northeast to drive jobs and regional growth.
