CNA Social media set to play prominent role in lead-up to Japan’s Feb 8 elections
Campaign season has traditionally sent Japanese political parties onto the streets with flyers and rallies. But social media is set to play a more prominent role in elections on Feb 8. Similar to face-to-face canvassing, online campaigning is allowed only up till the eve of election day. Under-18s cannot take part in any form of campaigning, even if it’s just reposting or sharing content. Michiyo Ishida reports from Tokyo.
