Campaigning underway in make-or-break test for Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi’s new coalition

Campaigning is underway in Japan as the country prepares for snap elections on 8th February. Public broadcaster NHK says more than 1,200 candidates have registered to contest for 465 seats in the Lower House – the more powerful of Japan’s two-chamber Parliament. The election is seen as a critical test for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, whose ruling bloc held a razor thin majority before the dissolution of the Diet. Michiyo Ishida reports.
