CNA ‘Work hard on having more babies’, Gan Kim Yong tells student

Laughter broke during a question-and-answer segment at the Institute of Policy Studies’ Singapore Perspectives 2026 conference on Monday (Jan 26) as Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong told a student to “work hard on having more babies”. Mr Gan was responding to the student’s question on how pressure from keeping with international competition has affected Singapore’s total fertility rate (TFR).

When talking about initiatives that are taken to allow people to mingle and meet one another, Mr Gan spoke about a new Outward Bound School in Punggol and joked that it was not designed to raise the TFR. #singapore #sgnews
