Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to announce an increase to the GST credit as part of a larger suite of measures known as the “Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.”

Over the next five years, quarterly GST payments are expected to rise by 25 per cent.

It’s expected that 12 million Canadians will be affected by the change.

The move to help Canadians deal with rising grocery prices comes amid opposition pressure on affordability issues for Canadians.
