Protests grow, Minneapolis National Guard activated after man shot and killed by federal agent

Unrest has grown and the National Guard has been activated in Minneapolis Saturday following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old city resident by a border patrol agent.

Minneapolis police Chief Brian O’Hara said the man killed was a U.S. citizen and a lawful gun owner with no criminal record other than traffic violations. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the border patrol agent fired “defense shots” after attempting to disarm a man who approached them with a handgun and two magazines.

“They were murdered on the street. Well, I mean how are you supposed to respond? It’s ludicrous,” a local business owner said. “We need to stand together and we need to tell the truth about what we see and not let others tell us what we’re seeing.”

Local police have not released the name of the man killed.
