CGTN Chair Malaysia faced multiple challenges as ASEAN asserted strong multilateral voice in 2025

Taking over the ASEAN chairmanship at the start of the year, Malaysia could not have anticipated the scale of challenges ahead – from the threat of sweeping US tariffs to armed conflict between two member states. Yet under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia has demonstrated its ability to bring countries together and strengthen key partnerships, including with China.
