The freezing rain that blanketed the city and created icy sidewalks has sent scores of Montreal residents to overcrowded emergency rooms.

Patients are coming in with fractures and concussions, adding pressure to a health system already strained.

Urgences-santé said it recorded the second highest call volume in its history.
