Global NewsTrump threatens lawsuit against Fed’s “incompetent” Powell, says successor to be announced January

During a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump doubled down on threats of a lawsuit against Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Trump’s reasoning for a potential suit? “Gross incompetence” which he related to the “incompetent” Powell’s management of renovations at the Fed’s Washington headquarters.

On multiple occasions Trump has threatened to try and fire Powell. However, when asked if he still planned to do so, the president suggested the chair “should resign,” claiming “it would be a favour to the nation.”

Powell’s term will expire in May and Trump suggested he will nominate a successor sometime in January.
